POSITION SUMMARY: The Communication Studies Department invites applications for a faculty position teaching undergraduate communication courses from a Christian worldview. Teaching responsibilities might include Fundamentals of Speech, Oral Communication for the Profession and Public Speaking. Faculty may also engage in advising, curriculum development, mentoring student-led organizations, and departmental or divisional services such as directing in theatrical productions or participating in a student-run communication agency.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Master’s degree (MA) in Communication Studies or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution
- Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication, including effective classroom instruction and interpersonal engagement with students
- Previous undergraduate teaching experience in communication, with evidence of effective instructional practices
- Ability to integrate a Christian worldview into communication instruction consistent with the mission, creed, and philosophy of teaching of Bob Jones University
- Commitment to student mentoring, advising, and relational teaching that recognizes students as image-bearers of God
- Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty and administration in curriculum development, assessment, and departmental initiatives
- Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current in communication pedagogy and disciplinary trends
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide effective instruction in assigned undergraduate courses, including course preparation, assessment, grading, and maintenance of course syllabi and instructional materials in accordance with university requirements
- Maintain a current faculty portfolio demonstrating teaching effectiveness, professional development, and service
- Serve as a student advisor, as assigned
- Participate in departmental and divisional activities, including curriculum development, assessment, committee service, and advising core or co-curricular organizations
- Engage in ongoing professional development and monitor communication research and trends to inform course and program improvement
- Participate in university service activities and attend required institutional events, including chapel, faculty/staff meetings, etc.
- Answers questions concerning mission and creed of BJU to constituents, students, or those inquiring about BJU
- Support experiential and co-curricular learning opportunities, which may include directing in Classic Players productions or contributing to a student-run agency
