Job Summary

A Companion Caregiver provides non-medical support, supervision, and companionship to individuals with developmental disabilities, seniors, or other persons requiring assistance with daily activities. The Companion Caregiver helps promote independence, community inclusion, social interaction, and overall well-being while ensuring the health and safety of the individual served.
Responsibilities
- Basic Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
Background Screening
- Level 2 Background Screening through the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD)
- Must pass fingerprinting and criminal history checks
Required Training
- HIPAA Training (confidentiality and privacy)
- APD Zero Tolerance Training
- Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation Prevention Training
- Incident Reporting procedures
- Client rights and professional boundaries
- Any additional APD-required training for the service being provided
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to assist individuals with developmental disabilities
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, compassion, and reliability
- Ability to document services accurately and timely
Companion Service Expectations
A companion should:
- Provide supervision and companionship
- Assist with community activities and social engagement
- Encourage independence and participation
- Follow the client's support plan
- Maintain professional boundaries
- Never leave the client unattended if supervision is required

- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Valid government-issued photo ID
- Social Security card or authorization to work in the U.S.
- Reliable transportation
- Valid driver's license (transporting clients)
- Current auto insurance (transporting clients)
Pay: From $17.00 per hour
