Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced, dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Technician/Assistant/Receptionist to join our veterinary team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in providing exceptional animal care, supporting veterinarians, and ensuring smooth clinic operations. Duties
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures
- Perform animal restraint and handling to ensure safety for both animals and staff
- Conduct laboratory tests and prepare samples
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians
- Maintain detailed medical records and update patient files accurately
- Assist with pet grooming, pet care, and animal husbandry tasks
- Prepare animals for X-ray imaging and operate radiography equipment
- Conduct animal catheterization and perform aseptic techniques during procedures
- Monitor anesthesia and vital signs during surgeries or critical care situations
- Patient care duties including cleaning, feeding, and caring for hospitalized animals
- Support pet owners with education on pet care, treatment, and post-treatment instructions
- Answer phones, triage patients, and schedule appointments
- Assist in scanning of records and updating patients files
Skills
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology
- Experience with handling of dogs and cats
- Proficiency in laboratory procedures and diagnostic equipment such as X-ray machines
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques to prevent infection during procedures
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with pet owners and team members
- Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments requiring critical thinking and attention to detail.
- Experience with Shepherd Practice Management Software a plus
