Job Title: Mammography Technologist

Position Summary
The Mammography Technologist, under direct supervision, performs specialized breast imaging procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease for patients served by Memphis Health Center. This role ensures the highest level of image quality, patient safety, and compassionate care in accordance with departmental protocols and regulatory guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Operates X-ray equipment and performs various mammography procedures in accordance with departmental protocols.
· Prepares and positions patients accurately while selecting appropriate anatomic and technical parameters.
· Explains procedures and educates patients about the role of regular mammography in preventive breast health.
· Critiques and evaluates images prior to presentation to the radiologist, ensuring quality standards are met.
· Develops and assesses images for density, contrast, definition, and distortion.
· Adheres to and enforces all radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
· Prepares for and assists the radiologist with advanced mammography examinations, including breast biopsies.
· Ensures accurate documentation and maintains patient records in compliance with HIPAA and departmental policies.
· Participates in quality assurance, quality control, and continuous improvement activities.
· Provides a supportive, respectful, and compassionate patient experience.
· Knowledgeable and fluently prepares for American College of Radiation (ACR)accreditation
· Knowledgeable and fluently prepares for FDA inspection
· Stay current on all state regulations related to mammography and x-rays
Accreditation Skills and Competencies
· Strong knowledge of mammography techniques, imaging protocols, and radiation safety.
· Ability to position patients with accuracy and sensitivity, considering physical limitations and patient comfort.
· Proficiency in operating digital mammography equipment and related imaging systems.
· Excellent communication skills for patient education and collaboration with radiologists and clinical staff.
· Strong attention to detail with the ability to critique images for diagnostic accuracy.
· Ability to maintain professionalism and compassion while working with diverse and underserved patient populations.
· Effective organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Education and Experience
· Completion of a two-year approved School of Radiologic Technology.
· Minimum of one (1) year full-time experience as a Mammography Technologist preferred.
Licensure/Certifications/Registration
· Valid State Radiology registration (as required by state law).
· Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) in Radiography with certification in Mammography.
· Current CPR/BLS Certification required.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
· Clinical setting with direct patient interaction.
· Requires standing, walking, and positioning patients for extended periods.
· Exposure to radiation and infectious diseases mitigated by proper protective equipment and safety practices.
