Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately translating medical diagnoses, procedures, and services into standardized codes to ensure proper billing and record-keeping. This role requires a strong understanding of medical coding systems, including CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10, as well as experience with electronic health records (EHR) and medical billing processes. The Coding Specialist plays a vital role in maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and supporting efficient revenue cycle management.
Duties
· Assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, and CPT codes to medical diagnoses and procedures based on detailed review of medical records and documentation.
· Ensure accurate coding for billing purposes in accordance with current healthcare regulations and payer requirements.
· Review medical records to verify the completeness and accuracy of documentation related to diagnoses and treatments.
· Collaborate with client’s office staff to clarify documentation or resolve coding discrepancies.
· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, medical terminology, and healthcare regulations.
· Assist in the preparation of claims submissions and follow-up on unpaid or rejected claims through medical collection processes.
· Support compliance audits by providing detailed documentation of coding decisions and maintaining organized records.
· Participate in ongoing training to stay current with changes in coding standards such as ICD updates or new billing regulations.
Experience
· 3+ years’ experience in medical coding, preferably with a laboratory.
· Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems classification.
· Familiarity with medical billing processes, collections, and insurance claim procedures.
· Experience working with Laboratory billing systems is highly desirable.
· Excellent understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical documentation standards.
