Shop Hand/Handyman
As a shop hand/handyman for Haynes Excavation, you will be responsible for performing various routine repairs, basic trade work, and general upkeep, as well as lending a hand to our mechanic as needed.
Responsibilities
- Yard and property maintenance including weeding and applying pre-emergent, minor fencing repairs, basic property improvements, shoveling snow and salting walkways, etc.
- Perform routine maintenance, basic drywall patching, painting, cosmetic punch-list items, and other handyman tasks.
- Conduct first-line diagnostics on facility issues and identify if the issues exceed basic maintenance limits, and if they do, escalate to the appropriate licensed professionals.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop floor, including sweeping bays, cleaning up fluid spills, emptying trash bins, etc.
- Run parts to and from local suppliers in Montrose and pick up materials for excavation crews.
- Assist mechanics with low-level tasks, such as washing/detailing company service trucks, checking fluid levels, and prepping trucks for the field.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in property maintenance, facility upkeep, construction trades, or working as a mechanic shop hand.
- Basic mechanical knowledge and practical understanding of tools and machinery required for property maintenance, such as hand tools, power tools, weedwackers, etc.
- Strong work ethic and situational awareness with a professional focus on quality, efficiency, and safety.
- Reliable, punctual, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects (sometimes exceeding 75 pounds), bend, kneel, stand for extended periods of time, and climb ladders safely.
- Must have a valid driver's license and a clean, insurable driving record as job duties include operating company service vehicles.
- All candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screening (this includes marijuana per our insurance company's policy)
Haynes Excavation offers year-round work with no layoffs in the slower/winter months. Pay will be based on experience.
Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
