Join our vibrant hospitality team as a live-in Innkeeper, where you will be the welcoming face and operational leader of an award-winning, 6-room bed & breakfast located in a quiet, historic part of Philly. This dynamic role combines guest relations, administrative oversight, and property management to create memorable experiences for visitors from around the world. As an Innkeeper living on site, you'll ensure smooth daily operations, uphold high standards of hospitality and cleanliness, and foster a warm, inviting atmosphere that keeps guests returning time and again. Duties
- Guest Relations: Front office functions include answering the phone & emails, taking reservations, managing guest relations/expectations, and daily communications. As an enthusiastic host, the Inn Manager must be present to personally welcome guests on arrival and to oversee a positive experience throughout their stay and on departure. The Inn Manager will respond to guest inquiries for information, assistance, and reservation requests. Additional duties include: scheduling event tours and meetings with interested groups; submitting contracts for approval; and securing bookings for parties, meetings, and special events.
- Staff Management: Manage and train any required staff members based on the weekly schedule; however, the majority of scheduling and training will be performed by Owners. The Inn Manager will also be responsible for “clocking in/out” of housekeepers and assistants.
- Food Service and Activities: The Inn Manager will create, prepare, and present fresh, local, seasonal menu options for breakfast and fresh baked items for the snack area. Personalized celebrations hosted on site such as anniversaries, birthdays, graduations etc. are typical with special attention given to guest dietary restrictions and preferences. Ordering or acquiring necessary food items, managing costs and inventory are also required functions.
- Housekeeping: The Inn Manager will oversee the property’s daily operations including general cleaning, guest room cleaning, laundry, ironing pillowcases and napkins, grounds work, and seasonal design projects. Additionally, the Inn Manager will ensure the overall presentation and cleanliness of the building, gardens, porches, parking areas, and sidewalks. As part of this process, garbage/trash must be regularly and properly disposed of. In the event a housekeeper is absent, Inn Manager will be required to jump in and clean rooms.
- Facilities Management and Repair: Ensure all interior and exterior spaces are in good working order and identify and coordinate with ownership the maintenance, repairs and special projects. The Inn Manager should be handy with small repairs and, in consultation with ownership, have the ability to contact and oversee electricians, plumbers or other licensed professionals as required. They are responsible for the safety of guests and staff.
- Marketing: In collaboration with owners, the Inn Manager will maintain the Inn calendar of events and property management repair schedule, as well as assist in forecasting food and beverage consumption/order needs. Input for new events and growth opportunities are encouraged. Attendance at weekly meetings with the owner to review the marketing calendar and execute contracts is required. Attendance and participation in the local chamber, tourism council, area-related events, is encouraged to build community relationships and promote the property.
- Accounting: The Inn Manager will set aside all bills and invoices for owners, and will be responsible for sending owners payroll hours for other employees, as well as any receivables. Occasional management reports may be required and requested by the owners to assist in achieving all business objectives which will be reviewed on a quarterly basis.
Skills
- Must be comfortable cooking scratch-made daily breakfast service for all guests, as well as some baking
- Proven experience in hospitality management or hotel operations with a strong focus on guest services
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly, approachable demeanor
- Strong organizational skills to manage front desk activities, reservations, and administrative tasks seamlessly
- Ability to handle night audit procedures accurately while maintaining attention to detail
- Exceptional phone etiquette and interpersonal skills to foster positive guest relations
Qualified candidates must have at least two years of experience managing similar hospitality properties. The right Inn Manager will be results oriented and comfortable rolling up their sleeves as the face of the property and the owners, as well as be able to perform physically demanding activities.
Housing: Ownership shall provide onsite housing in a designated area of the property with all utilities included as a condition of employment. The Inn Keeper shall obtain a renter’s insurance policy and provide all food and alcohol for personal consumption and maintain the apartment in acceptable condition. No smoking is allowed anywhere inside the provided housing or in any indoor location at the Inn. No pets are allowed on the premises.
