Heavy Equipment Test Technician
Location: Orrville, OH
Shift: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Pay: $25–$35 per hour, depending on experience
Job Type: Long-term contract with potential contract-to-hire opportunity
We are hiring a hands-on Test Technician to test, troubleshoot and repair heavy mobile equipment. This is a great opportunity for someone with experience working on construction equipment, agricultural machinery, rental equipment or other hydraulically operated mobile equipment.
Approximately 70% of the work involves testing and troubleshooting hydraulic and electronic systems. The technician will take equipment apart, identify failures, complete repairs, reassemble components and document test results.
Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on testing of heavy equipment and mechanical systems
- Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and electronic controls
- Perform basic failure analysis and identify the source of equipment problems
- Follow detailed test procedures and document results
- Disassemble, repair and reassemble mechanical and hydraulic components
- Read and interpret hydraulic, electrical and mechanical schematics
- Install sensors, transducers and other test instrumentation
- Use data acquisition equipment to monitor pressure changes and analyze test data
- Fabricate fixtures and establish test sequences and procedures
- Prepare clear, professional test reports
- Perform testing in varying temperatures and weather conditions
- Follow all applicable safety and quality procedures
Requirements
- At least two years of experience testing, troubleshooting or maintaining mechanical equipment
- Hands-on experience with hydraulics, pneumatics and controls
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical or electronic systems
- Ability to read technical schematics and follow detailed test procedures
- Experience using mechanical hand tools
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear test reports
- Ability to supply a basic set of personal tools, including wrenches and sockets up to 1 inch and 25 mm
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be a U.S. citizen
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience with heavy construction, agricultural, farm or other mobile equipment
- Test or maintenance experience with an equipment rental company
- Experience using eDAQ or similar data acquisition systems
- Experience fabricating test fixtures and installing instrumentation
