Job Description: Make Ready Technician / Upfit QA
Position Overview
The Make Ready Technician performs multi-phase inspections, final adjustments, and detailing on utility truck chassis and mounted aerial lift equipment. This hands-on role bridges the gap between major assembly and final delivery, checking mechanical systems, electrical wiring, safety features, and visual cosmetics to ensure strict compliance with manufacturing drawings, DOT standards, and customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities

Final Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI): Run through comprehensive checklists to verify the functionality of all mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components on the truck body and boom.

Chassis & Upfit Quality Checks: Inspect incoming truck chassis and outgoing sub-assembly welds, structural mounts, and torque specifications on major fasteners.

Electrical & Mechanical Adjustments: Check 12V and auxiliary electrical wiring for proper routing, connection, and insulation. Adjust minor hardware, hinges, toolboxes, and decals.

Fluid & Leak Verification: Check hydraulic fluids, engine fluids, and gearboxes. Inspect all lines and valves to guarantee zero leaks under system pressure.

Cosmetic Detailing & Touch-ups: Clean the interior and exterior of completed vehicles. Perform minor paint touch-ups and remove production debris (shavings, overspray) to ensure a flawless presentation.

Documentation: Complete and sign off on all QA/Make Ready paperwork, logging any defects or non-conformities to be sent back to the production floor before customer sign-off.
Required Skills & Qualifications

Experience: 1–3 years of experience in automotive upfitting, heavy equipment assembly, or mechanical quality control.

Technical Literacy: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and mechanical engineering drawings.

Tools Proficient: Strong proficiency with pneumatic tools, torque wrenches, hand tools, and electrical testing meters (multimeters).

Attention to Detail: An eagle eye for finding loose wires, missing decals, or cosmetic paint flaws.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long shifts, and safely climb on, under, and around large utility trucks.

Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required
