Miami-Dade Corrections Health Services (CHS) operates under Jackson Health System (JHS) and serves approximately 5,000 patients daily. Patient care is delivered by nearly 400 healthcare employees representing a diverse multidisciplinary team of nurses & nurse support staff, physicians, psychiatrists, social workers and other professionals. CHS supports Miami Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation at 3 facilities in Miami-Dade County and leverages the resources of a large public safety net health system in the areas of education, quality, risk management & compliance.
Summary
The role of Attending Psychiatrist is to provide the behavioral health management as assigned to patients in a clinical setting. Provides and maintains intensive direct medical diagnosis, consultation, and health care services throughout all JHS Emergency Departments, outpatients and/or inpatients units as needed.
Responsibilities

Maintains effective lines of communications with the medical staff, nursing, social work, management, and correctional staff and coordinates development, implementation and evaluation of standards of patient care.

Performs psychiatric evaluations for patients of varying behavioral health levels throughout the correctional sites. Evaluations will assess clinical needs and continued need for behavioral health level of care as delineated by Protocol, Policy and Procedure.

Initiates involuntary hospitalizations via Professional Certificate, and B32 petitions and March man Act Petitions. Performs behavioral health assessments. Assesses, consults and treats medical co-morbidities in conjunction with Medical Provider Team.

Serves as first responder with BLS skill to any medical emergency in the Behavioral Health units.

Initiates emergency medication orders/restraint/seclusion in accordance with CHS policy and state law. Collaborates other members of the clinical team on continuing care and disposition.

Leads the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team sessions. Participates in the on-call coverage by rotation.

Attends all mandatory organizational meetings. Supervises mid-level providers, residents, interns, medical students and other trainees in provision of above tasks.

Provides inter-departmental consultations. Documents clinical and non-clinical contacts in the Electronic Health Record. Enters all orders in the Electronic Health Record.

Adherence to appropriate MDCR Policy and Procedure. Comply with all matters related to Department of Justice Consent Decree. Participates in Periodic Peer Review.

Experience
Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
Education
Doctorate degree in Medicine is required.
Credentials

Valid Florida Medical License.

Board certification or eligible preferred (ABPN).

For incumbents working in Corrections Health Services, active DEA and board certification is preferred. For incumbents working in other facilities, active DEA and board certification is required.

Other specialty certifications related to specialty are a plus. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
