Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by sterilizing and organizing surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies, ensuring all tools are ready for procedures.
- Assist surgical teams during procedures by passing instruments, suturing wounds, and managing surgical supplies with precision.
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques and infection control protocols to prevent healthcare-associated infections during surgeries.
- Monitor patient vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and respiratory status throughout procedures.
- Support data collection related to surgical outcomes, patient responses, and procedural documentation within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems like Epic or other EMR platforms.
- Handle the sterilization of medical equipment and ensure compliance with hospital infection prevention standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in trauma centers or hospital settings to provide critical care support during emergencies or complex surgeries.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Surgical Technologist or in a similar role within hospital medicine, emergency medicine, or trauma centers.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and surgical procedures including treatment of fractures and trauma care.
- Hands-on experience with surgical instruments, medical equipment operation, endoscopy tools, and medical records management systems such as Epic or other EMR/EHR platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to perform suturing, assist with intubations or invasive procedures, and support pediatric or ICU patients when needed.
- Critical care experience in Level I or Level II trauma centers is highly desirable.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; additional certifications like Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) are a plus.
- Excellent analysis skills for assessing patient responses and adapting to rapidly changing clinical situations.
- Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention practices including aseptic technique and hospital sterilization protocols.
