General Description
This position performs responsible protective service work involving a variety of general or support-duty Police assignments and does related work as required. Much of the work is performed under emergency conditions and frequently involves considerable personal hazard. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a Police Sergeant or Corporal.
Requirements/Preferences
High School diploma or equivalent required, or any combination of experience working with the public and education accepted as well. Must be at least 21 years of age, must be able to pass physical and psychological examinations, and a drug screening test. Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license and a Department of Criminal Justice Certification.
Salary and Benefits
The minimum starting salary is $43,845 annually for a Police Recruit. The starting salary for Certified Police Officers is $49,042. The City offers a generous benefits package including health insurance, life insurance, VRS retirement, paid leave, and holidays. Following a conditional offer of employment, applicants must pass a physical examination, drug test, and psychological exam.
