ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for a Harness Design Engineer to help design and develop cutting-edge products for the automotive after-market, including forward and rear lighting cables, vehicle-specific harnesses, and harness adapters. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on taking designs from concept to reality, improving existing products, and collaborating with global teams and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Creating detailed designs for electrical harnesses, as applied to a variety of On-Road and Off-Road vehicles using SolidWorks and Arcadia CAD packages.
- Translating technical requirements and customer needs into working harness solutions using current tools, architecture and development techniques.
- Ensuring designs are reliable and robust to meet the BWI quality standards.
- Communicating designs clearly to the team and suppliers with detailed engineering drawings
- Preparing material and equipment lists, cost analyses, and estimated production costs.
- Building prototype harnesses for bench testing and field trials.
- Supporting intermittent Operational needs by building short run production harnesses.
- Participating in DFMEA studies relevant to the electrical and mechanical aspects of harness designs
- Supporting Design Verification Testing on harness production samples
- Authoring and managing Best Practices and tools for Harness Design and Prototyping, in cooperation with the Global Design Team.
- Developing and implementing process improvements and technological upgrades.
- Designing and maintaining electrical workstations that support Prototyping, Production, and Testing.
- Hosting training for team members as the Electrical Harness Subject Matter Expert (SME).
- Supporting First Article Inspection during intake of production harnesses.
- To be a contributor to the creation of product installation manuals.
- Interfacing with customers to provide education and troubleshooting with harness related topics.
Qualifications
- Ability to review production schedules, processes, specifications, and related information
- Intimate knowledge of electronic componentry, used as industry standard for On-Road and Off-Road vehicle applications
- Keen understanding of industry standards and regulations, ensuring the highest quality of electrical harness design
- Experienced producer of electrical harnesses for use as prototypes and production.
- Knowledgeable and well-practiced with testing standards and practices specific electrical harnesses, electronic componentry, and lighting products.
