About the Opportunity
Our client is a growing manufacturer of highly engineered special cutting tools serving industrial customers throughout North America. They are seeking an experienced Sales Operations Manager to lead the commercial execution of their engineer-to-order (ETO) business.
This position is responsible for managing the entire Quote-to-Cash process, ensuring customer requirements are translated into accurate quotations, clean order execution, exceptional customer communication, and on-time delivery. You'll serve as the operational leader connecting Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Customer Service, and Finance to deliver outstanding customer experiences while protecting profitability and production capacity.

What You'll Do
Lead the Quote-to-Cash Process
- Own the commercial execution of the engineer-to-order sales process.
- Ensure accurate scope definition and quotation development.
- Coordinate with Sales and Application Engineering on technical requirements.
- Validate pricing, margins, lead times, and commercial terms.
Manage Order Accuracy & Execution
- Ensure customer orders accurately reflect approved quotations.
- Verify drawings, revisions, specifications, and approvals before production release.
- Resolve order discrepancies, scope changes, engineering clarifications, and change orders.
- Maintain complete order integrity from entry through fulfillment.
Lead Customer Service & Order Management
- Manage and develop a team of five professionals responsible for quoting, customer service, and order management.
- Establish disciplined follow-up processes throughout the order lifecycle.
- Communicate lead times, milestones, delays, and delivery updates proactively.
- Partner with Operations to resolve production and delivery issues.
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience through responsive communication.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Serve as the primary liaison between:
- Sales
- Engineering
- Manufacturing
- Supply Chain
- Finance
Coordinate rapid resolution of:
- Engineering questions
- Capacity constraints
- Commercial changes
- Make-versus-buy decisions
- Production priorities
Process Improvement
- Improve and document Quote-to-Cash workflows.
- Develop and monitor KPIs including:
- Quote turnaround time
- Order entry accuracy
- On-time delivery
- Customer responsiveness
- Commercial error reduction
- Champion ERP and CRM data integrity.
- Identify automation opportunities and continuous improvement initiatives.
Leadership
- Coach and mentor customer service and order management personnel.
- Establish accountability and performance expectations.
- Foster a culture focused on ownership, responsiveness, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in:
- Sales Operations
- Customer Service Leadership
- Quoting and Order Management
- Manufacturing Operations
- Engineering Documentation
- ERP and CRM systems
- Experience supporting an Engineer-to-Order (ETO) or highly customized manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing workflows and commercial order execution.
- Proven leadership experience managing cross-functional teams.
