The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are developing technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more, with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in commercial, industrial, or infrastructure construction and thrives in fast-paced field environments. This person should bring hands-on project engineering experience coordinating subcontractors, materials, schedules, installations, and field execution across multiple scopes of work. This role will work cross-functionally with design, construction, operations, and commissioning teams to deliver tunnels safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Responsibilities
-
Lead tunnel buildout activities including roadway panels, wall and ceiling finishes, drainage interfaces, lighting, electrical systems, fire/life safety systems, communications infrastructure, and signage.
-
Manage the transition from tunnel excavation and structural completion into fit-out, equipment installation, and final construction phases.
-
Develop and drive construction work plans, sequencing strategies, look-ahead schedules, and execution timelines.
-
Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, superintendents, and internal teams to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
-
Track material deliveries, long-lead items, labor needs, and installation readiness across all scopes.
-
Monitor daily field progress, resolve construction issues, and remove blockers to maintain schedule.
-
Ensure quality control, safety compliance, and adherence to project specifications and standards.
-
Support procurement of equipment, materials, and specialty systems required for tunnel completion.
-
Lead punch-list completion, startup activities, testing support, and final handoff to operations teams.
-
Identify opportunities to improve future tunnel buildout speed, cost, constructability, and standardization across projects.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or related discipline.
-
Strong background in project engineering, field operations, construction coordination, or project management.
-
Experience managing multiple trades such as electrical, mechanical, fire protection, controls, structural, or architectural finishes.
-
Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, and field execution.
-
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and scopes of work.
-
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
-
Hands-on mindset with willingness to spend significant time in the field driving execution.
-
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment with aggressive timelines.
