Behavior Technician (ABA) — Part-Time Afternoons | Pillar 5
Looking for meaningful part-time work that fits around morning classes or commitments? Pillar 5's afternoon Behavior Technicians work one-on-one with children and individuals with autism (ASD) and other developmental disabilities in our clinic and out in the community — building social, communication, and daily-living skills using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). No ABA experience required — we provide paid training and a path to RBT certification.
The essentials
- Schedule: Monday–Friday afternoons, roughly 1:00–6:00 PM. 20–25 hours/week. Consistent weekday availability matters more than experience.
- Location: Clinic- and community-based in the Arcata / McKinleyville / Eureka area.
- Pay: $23–$26/hour, depending on experience and certification.
- Employment type: W-2 employee (not a 1099 contract position).
- Must have: reliable transportation, a valid California driver's license, and active auto insurance — this role includes driving between sites and, once trained, safely transporting clients.
What you'll do
- Run afternoon ABA sessions in our clinic and community settings (parks, stores, libraries) exactly as designed by your supervising BCBA.
- Work two-tech sessions alongside an experienced technician — you're paired, not thrown in alone, until you're fully trained and cleared.
- Collect accurate behavioral data and keep session notes current, maintaining strict HIPAA confidentiality.
- Support safe transitions and client transport at the end of sessions, following all safety protocols.
- Build rapport with clients and families and communicate progress and barriers to your BCBA.
What we're looking for
- Consistent Monday–Friday afternoon availability (roughly 1:00–6:00 PM) — this is the one non-negotiable.
- Hands-on experience with children or individuals with disabilities — in any setting (school, clinic, childcare, caregiving, direct support) — is required.
- Current or recent coursework in psychology, child development, education, social work, or a related field is a great fit — this role pairs naturally with a class schedule, and the hours count toward experience many graduate programs value.
- RBT certification is a plus; if you're not certified, we provide paid training and BCBA supervision to help you earn it.
- Attentiveness and the ability to stay engaged and move quickly with active kids; able to lift/carry up to 25 lbs.
An honest note on the work
This is hands-on work with real kids in real settings. You may encounter challenging behaviors (hitting, biting, scratching, elopement/running) and possible exposure to bodily fluids. You'll be trained thoroughly and paired with experienced staff before ever working independently — but we want you walking in knowing what the day-to-day looks like.
