Duties
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate basketball drills, games, and skill-building activities tailored to various skill levels
- Lead warm-up exercises, stretching routines, and safety checks before each session to prevent injuries
- Provide clear instructions on basketball techniques, rules, and sportsmanship principles to young players
- Monitor participant behavior, manage group dynamics, and implement effective behavior management strategies
- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding player progress and session updates
- Ensure all safety protocols are followed, including AED operation and first aid/CPR readiness
- Foster a positive team environment that encourages teamwork, confidence, and enjoyment of the sport
Core Responsibilities
- On-Court Leadership: Execute high-tempo practices, manage game-day strategy, and lead the team through competitive weekend tournament schedules. Games are played primarily in the Chicago North Suburbs.
Qualifications
- Prior experience coaching or working with children in sports or physical education settings
- Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, rules, and game strategies
- Experience in sports-specific training instruction such as soccer coaching or cheerleading is a plus
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with children, parents, and team members
- Certifications in first aid, CPR, AED operation, or martial arts such as karate or judo are highly desirable
- Background in lifeguard experience or swimming is beneficial for safety awareness
- Demonstrated ability in behavior management and child development principles
- Enthusiastic team leadership skills with a passion for youth sports and physical activity
