Position Summary:
The part-time Main Street Retail Associate supports daily operations of the Town’s incubator retail space and helps create a welcoming, attractive, and engaging destination for residents and visitors. This position is responsible for retail sales, customer service, merchandising and displays, event coordination, scheduling support, and maintaining a clean and inviting environment. This positionplays an important role in advancing local economic development by helping sustain a vibrant Main Street retail experience that promotes community engagement and supports business growth.
Essential Functions / Typical Tasks
- Open and close the retail space in accordance with established procedures.
- Operate point-of-sale systems and process customer transactions accurately.
- Deliver excellent customer service and foster a welcoming visitor experience.
- Maintain visually appealing merchandise displays and regularly refresh product presentation to enhance sales and engagement.
- Support visual merchandising and overall beautification of the retail environment.
- Coordinate and assist with community events, promotions, vendor activities, and special programming hosted at the location.
- Develop and maintain staff schedules and coordinate shift coverage as needed.
- Assist with onboarding and day-to-day coordination of part-time or volunteer personnel assigned to the space.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate restocking needs.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and presentation standards throughout the facility.
- Track basic operational information and provide updates regarding attendance, sales activity, events, and customer feedback.
- Recommend ideas and improvements that enhance the retail experience and support continued visitation.
- Serve as a positive representative of the Town and its economic development goals.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Required Skills / Abilities
- Ability to work up to 20hrs a week
- Year-round role but flexing hours towards certain times of the year when needed
- Includes evenings and weekends, depending on programing and/or events (Thursday – Monday)
- Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to create visually appealing merchandise displays and maintain retail presentation standards.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to coordinate multiple priorities in a public-facing environment.
- Experience planning or supporting events preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment.
- Comfortable using point-of-sale systems, scheduling tools, email, and basic office software.
- Ability to supervise schedules and coordinate workflow among team members.
- Creative problem-solving and initiative.
- Interest in community development, local business support, and placemaking activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Coordinates schedules and day-to-day work assignments for part-time staff, seasonal staff, volunteers, or assigned personnel.
- Provides guidance regarding customer service expectations, presentation standards, and operational procedures.
- Does not include formal hiring, disciplinary authority, or performance evaluation responsibilities unless assigned.
Physical Demands
- Frequently standing and walking during scheduled shifts.
- Ability to lift and move merchandise and supplies up to approximately 25 pounds.
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and arrange displays.
- Ability to set up and break down event materials and retail fixtures.
- Ability to operate standard retail and office equipment.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience in retail, customer service, hospitality, event coordination, merchandising, community programming, or related field preferred but not required.
- Experience with visual merchandising, scheduling, or community engagement is preferred but not required.
A successful candidate will be required to complete a background check and drug screening.
