Position Summary
The Histology Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Histology Laboratory, ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely, and high-quality diagnostic testing. This role supervises laboratory personnel, maintains regulatory compliance, manages quality assurance programs, and works closely with Pathologists to support outstanding patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily Histology Laboratory operations and staff
- Perform and oversee tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and special stains
- Train, mentor, and evaluate histology team members
- Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, and Joint Commission standards
- Oversee quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing
- Troubleshoot laboratory equipment and validate new procedures
- Collaborate with Pathologists and laboratory leadership to improve workflow and patient outcomes
Qualifications
- HT or HTL (ASCP) Certification Required
- Associate degree or equivalent science coursework
- Minimum 5 years of Histology experience
- Previous supervisory or lead experience strongly preferred
- Experience with CAP inspections, CLIA regulations, and laboratory accreditation
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
