The Frontline Inventory Replenishment Expert (FIRE) is the premier inventory expert who supervises all aspects of internal material flow operations, ensuring that raw materials, purchased parts, and WIP (work-in-progress) components are delivered to the correct location at the right time. This person acts as the critical bridge between the planning/scheduling functions and the physical execution of material movement.
They are responsible for coordinating with inventory material handlers (forklift operators, tugger drivers, kitting team, etc.), maintaining inventory integrity, and coordinating with other departments to avoid production downtime due to material shortages.
Core Responsibilities
1. Operational Execution
Direct and coordinate daily tasks for material handlers assigned to production lines, staging areas, and warehouse zones.
Ensure timely movement of materials from receiving or warehouse storage to production cells.
Oversee kitting, line-side delivery, kanban pulls, and replenishment activities.
Enforce FIFO material rotation procedures and minimize aging of components.
Monitor and execute internal transfer orders through the ERP system.
Work closely with the Department Planner to ensure accurate inventory needs for future units. Close existing gaps before materials move into WIP.
FIRE will attend the Weld “Production” meeting daily.
2. Inventory Accuracy & Material Tracking
Maintain real-time visibility of material locations within ERP (e.g., rack IDs, bins, kanban zones).
Ensure materials are stored in designated areas.
Perform root cause analysis for inventory discrepancies.
Oversee cycle counts, physical inventory events, and reconcile variances.
Track part shortages and escalate critical issues to planning or sourcing teams.
3. Team Leadership & Training
Assign daily tasks based on production priorities, skill levels, and resource availability.
Promote cross-training and ensure all handlers are certified in equipment they operate (forklifts, tuggers, cranes).
Conduct safety briefings, enforce PPE compliance, and perform regular audits.
4. Equipment & Safety Oversight
Monitor equipment usage and coordinate preventative maintenance schedules for forklifts and other handling tools.
Ensure operators adhere to OSHA safety standards and company-specific protocols.
Participate in and lead incident investigations for material handling accidents or near-misses.
5. Continuous Improvement

Work with Lean/CI teams to implement material flow enhancements (e.g., supermarket zones, 5S).

Provide feedback on BOM or routing errors observed during part delivery.
Qualifications:
1-2 years of experience in inventory management or a related field, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Basic understanding of inventory management practices.
Proficiency in using inventory management software is a plus.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to lift and move materials as needed (up to 50 lbs).
Working Conditions:
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and dust.
Standing, walking, and lifting for extended periods may be required.
Flexibility to work shifts, including occasional weekends or overtime, based on production needs.
