Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Registered Nurse - Unit Manager to lead and coordinate nursing care within a specialized healthcare unit. Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise nursing staff, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to clinical protocols.
- Oversee patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and comprehensive medical documentation using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care plans, including medication administration, IV infusion, catheterization, tube feeding, and wound care.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality of all patient information.
- Conduct physical examinations, diagnostic evaluations, and assist with procedures such as cardiac catheterization or spinal taps as needed.
- Facilitate discharge planning, family education, and coordination with case management teams for seamless patient transitions.
- Promote infection control practices, sterile processing techniques, and adherence to OSHA standards to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Manage staffing schedules, supervise performance evaluations, and foster professional development through ongoing training in areas like ICU experience, behavioral health, dementia care, or acute pain management.
- Support quality improvement initiatives by participating in utilization review and management processes aligned with NCQA standards.
- Utilize EMR/EHR systems such as Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation and reporting.
Experience
- Valid RN license with current registration in the state of practice.
- Proven leadership experience in a healthcare setting, preferably within long-term care facilities, hospitals (including Level I Trauma Centers), or assisted living communities.
- Extensive clinical background including critical care experience such as ICU or emergency medicine; familiarity with Level II trauma center protocols is advantageous.
- Hands-on experience with medical procedures like phlebotomy, venipuncture, suturing, airway management, ventilator support, and catheter care.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding for billing purposes, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Proficiency in managing EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or Athenahealth; experience supervising nursing teams is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals with disabilities or developmental delays; experience in geriatrics or memory care is highly valued.
