The Administrative Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organizations assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. This position will work three days a week in our Exeter and upcoming Somersworth, NH location with up to two days working remotely from home each week.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
- Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
- Maintains the general ledger.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Advanced and use of classes and donors for restricted and unrestricted grant tracking.
- Provides accurate and timely grant billing and invoicing and is familiar with state and federal grant requirements.
- Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
- Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
- Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll service reports, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.
- Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
- Files tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
- Coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
- Manages the purchasing and invoicing system.
- Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Will work closely with cross-functional teams, including the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, to advise on financial strategies and lead the organizations financial committee.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
- Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Ability to correctly prepare tax reports.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
Qualifications/Education:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
-At least three years of related experience required.
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in using Quickbooks accounting software systems and advanced MS Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in general ledger accounting and balance sheet reconciliations is highly desirable.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
