Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers on OTR routes, adhering strictly to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Transport refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, or specialized freight including hazardous materials and dangerous goods across long distances.
- Use GPS navigation systems to plan optimal routes and ensure timely deliveries while complying with route-specific requirements.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or truck loading/unloading equipment, ensuring cargo is secured properly for transit.
- Manage the transportation of automobiles or other specialty cargo with precision and care during transit and delivery.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking manual transmissions, brakes, lights, tires, and load security.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, deliveries, and vehicle maintenance in compliance with FMCSA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers to coordinate delivery schedules and resolve any issues promptly.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class A license with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving and delivery driving.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, hazardous materials regulations (Hazmat), flatbed operations, tanker trucks, and automobile transportation is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of GPS navigation systems for route planning and real-time adjustments.
- Ability to handle manual transmission trucks and perform manual handling tasks safely.
- Understanding of DOT regulations regarding hours of service, load securement, and safety protocols.
- Prior experience with freight logistics cargo handling and truck loading/unloading processes.
- Strong commitment to safety standards and regulatory compliance while maintaining excellent customer service during deliveries.
