The purpose and mission of the Department of Business & Neighborhood Services (DBNS) is to protect and improve the quality of life of all residents in the City of Indianapolis. DBNS is the City of Indianapolis and Marion County’s principal department responsible for business licenses, residential and commercial permits, and the enforcement of the Revised Code of Ordinances of the Consolidated City and County.
Position is responsible for the supervision of employees and processes related to permitting the following: Class 2 Residential Structural, 1-2 Family Residential Drainage, Heating & Cooling, Plumbing, and Electrical, Class 1 and Class 2 Wrecking, and all Zoning Permits. Position also provides zoning research and verification by the Department of Business and Neighborhood Services, when necessary. The role will coordinate regularly with the Department of Metropolitan Development, the Department of Public Works, and internal/external partners. Given the different permit types that might be associated with a single project, this role is expected to coordinate regularly with fellow DBNS permitting leadership to ensure efficient review and issuance of related permits. This position is expected to function as an expert in these areas of responsibility as work performed in this position has a direct impact on the life safety and quality of life for the residents of Indianapolis and its visitors.
