Responsibilities
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, including taking vital signs, recording medical histories, and preparing patients for procedures.
- Perform clinical tasks such as phlebotomy (blood draws), administering medications under supervision, and assisting with X-ray procedures when necessary.
- Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems) accurately by documenting patient encounters, updating charts, and ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.
- Support patient intake processes by verifying insurance information, updating personal data, and explaining procedures to patients clearly.
- Monitor patient vital signs and physiological data to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning across various specialties like dermatology, internal medicine, or emergency medicine.
- Provide medical administrative support by scheduling appointments, managing referrals, and coordinating follow-up care with other healthcare providers.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment while adhering to infection control protocols; assist with inventory management of medical supplies and medications.
Requirements
- Certification as a Medical Assistant from an accredited program; prior experience in dermatology, hospital medicine, urgent care or outpatient clinics is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems and familiarity with ICD coding for accurate documentation.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and medical terminology to support effective patient care.
- Hands-on experience with phlebotomy, medication administration, vital signs collection, and basic life support (BLS) certification.
- Previous inpatient or hospital experience preferred; experience at Level I or Level II trauma centers is a plus.
- Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments such as emergency departments or surgical units; familiarity with X-ray procedures or PICU experience is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills with a focus on patient service; ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and compassion.
