Swim Lesson Instructor (Youth)
Position: Swim Lesson Instructor
Employment Type: Part-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Weekdays, evenings, and weekends as needed
Position Summary
The Swim Lesson Instructor is responsible for teaching safe, engaging, and age-appropriate swim lessons to children ages 4 and older. Instructors help swimmers build water safety skills, confidence, and proper stroke technique while creating a positive and encouraging learning environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Teach swim lessons according to the FMC curriculum and lesson plans.
- Ensure the safety of all participants by maintaining constant supervision.
- Create a fun, positive, and supportive learning environment.
- Adapt instruction to meet each swimmer's individual needs and abilities.
- Provide clear feedback and encouragement to swimmers and parents.
- Evaluate swimmer progress and recommend advancement when appropriate.
- Maintain class attendance and lesson records.
- Set up and put away lesson equipment before and after classes.
- Follow all facility policies, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
- Communicate professionally with parents, swimmers, and staff.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum age of 16 years old (preferred).
- Previous competitive swimming or swim instruction experience preferred.
- Enjoy working with children and helping them succeed.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Certifications
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (or ability to obtain).
- CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move around the pool deck for extended periods.
- Ability to enter the water to demonstrate skills and assist swimmers.
- Ability to lift or assist children in and out of the water when necessary.
- Work in a warm, humid pool environment.
