Job Title: Material Handler – Sheet Metal Factory
Job Summary:
The Material Handler is responsible for the efficient and safe movement, storage, and staging of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished sheet metal products within the factory. This role ensures timely delivery of materials to various production areas to support continuous manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Load, unload, and move sheet metal materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, cranes, and other material handling equipment.
- Stage materials for machine operators and fabricators based on daily production schedules.
- Transport finished parts to designated storage or shipping areas.
- Monitor inventory levels of raw materials and report shortages to supervisors.
- Label, tag, or mark materials with part numbers and job order details.
- Ensure proper storage and organization of sheet metal components to prevent damage.
- Assist with receiving deliveries, verifying materials against packing slips or purchase orders.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, material racks, and storage spaces.
- Follow all safety guidelines, including the use of PPE and proper lifting techniques.
- Communicate with production, logistics, and warehouse teams to coordinate material flow.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing or sheet metal environment preferred.
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain).
- Ability to read job travelers, part labels, and basic blueprints a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Physical stamina to lift/move materials up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
Working Conditions:
- Factory environment with exposure to noise, metal dust, and sharp materials.
- Requires PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
- Shift work may be required (day/night/weekend).
