POSITION SUMMARY
The Pharmacy Technician supports the accurate, safe, and efficient dispensing of prescription medications in a 503A environment.
All duties must comply with Alabama Board of Pharmacy regulations and be performed under a licensed pharmacist’s supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Process, enter, prepare, label, and package prescriptions for pharmacist final check.
- Maintain accurate NDC selection, labeling, and documentation.
- Assist with inventory: receiving, stocking, rotation, and outdate checks.
- Support controlled substance dispensing under pharmacist oversight.
- Provide non-clinical patient service: answering phones, refills, pickup coordination.
- Protect PHI and comply with all HIPAA rules.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and follow pharmacy SOPs.
ALABAMA REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
- Must be registered with the Alabama Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician or Trainee.
- Technician Trainees may work up to 12 months before full registration is required.
- Must complete an ALBOP-approved technician training program within 6 months of registration.
- Must complete 6 hours of CE annually, including 2 hours of live CE.
- May not take new prescriptions by phone, counsel patients, or perform final product checks.
- Technician-pharmacist ratio must comply with Alabama law (3:1; max 1 trainee).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED.
- Compounding experience (sterile or non-sterile).
- Strong accuracy, attention to detail, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow standardized procedures.
- Basic knowledge of medications and pharmacy workflow preferred.
- Hold a current CPhT certification or agree to become certified within 1 year of hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Standing for extended periods
- Lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent computer and equipment use.

- DEA requirements (when assisting)
- DSCSA receiving/recordkeeping (if assigned)
- HIPAA privacy and security rules
- Pharmacy SOPs (Intake, Dispensing, CS, DSCSA, HIPAA, Inspection Readiness)
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
