About the Job
The Pool Operator is responsible for knowing, abiding by, and enforcing all guidelines of the Aquatic Department as well as the Association. Responsible for all necessary documentation during shift, to include but not limited to hourly readings of sanitizer, pH, water and air temperature, rate of flow, pressure differential, facility usage, filling out manager log for appropriate shift and submission of accident and/or incident reports. Responsible for maintaining the facility at inspection ready status per state and county commercial pool operation regulations during shift. Supervises delivery of equipment and chemicals if occurring on assigned shift. Ensures excellent public relations with members of the YMCA, department staff and other branch employees. Responsible for ensuring that the Department in its entirety is secure, according to written guidelines when the branch closes at night. Ensures that the health and safety of members and their guests is properly maintained during their shift. Other duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Must be 17 years of age
- Must have at least 500 hours of experience
- Must meet essential functions of Lifeguard
- Current life guarding certifications
- CPR and First Aid completion cards
- Valid pool operator’s license for facility’s jurisdiction
- Must certify through YMCA as Lifeguard within six months if card is not YMCA
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift and move around objects of 60 pounds or more.
- Must have the physical ability to meet all prerequisites for YMCA Lifeguarding.
- Swim 500 yards.
- Tread water for two minutes. (Legs only).
- Retrieve training victim from bottom deep end. Active victim rescue with tube.
- Passive victim rescue with tube.
- Backboard victim.
- Ability to see and hear participants in distress or asking for assistance

About The Job
As a Pool Operator, you'll help keep our pool safe, clean, and ready for fun. You'll:
- Monitor pool water, temperatures, equipment, and safety standards
- Complete required logs, readings, and incident reports
- Keep the facility inspection-ready and secure
- Safely manage pool chemicals and equipment
- Provide great service to YMCA members, guests, and staff
- Help maintain a safe aquatic environment
What You Need
- Must be 17+
- At least 500 hours of experience
- Current Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certifications
- Valid Pool Operator License for the facility's jurisdiction
- Ability to meet YMCA Lifeguard physical requirements
- If not currently YMCA-certified, must complete YMCA Lifeguard certification within 6 months
Physical Requirements
You must be able to lift/move 60+ pounds and meet YMCA Lifeguard requirements, including swimming 500 yards, treading water, and performing various water rescues.
