Overview
The DeckHouse is seeking a disciplined, detail-oriented, and hospitality-driven Food Runner to support service in our coastal modern crudo bar. This role is essential to maintaining flow between the kitchen, bar, counter, and dining areas, ensuring food is delivered promptly, accurately, and beautifully.
The ideal candidate understands that food running is not just about speed, but about care, communication, and guest experience. You will be a visible part of the floor, helping guests feel taken care of while supporting both front- and back-of-house teams in a fast-paced, refined environment.
Responsibilities
Service & Execution
- Deliver food from the kitchen to guests quickly, accurately, and with attention to presentation
- Navigate both indoor and outdoor seating areas with efficiency
- Assist with semi–counter service by running to tables, and supporting guest flow
- Ensure proper placement of dishes, share brief descriptions when appropriate, and alert bartenders or managers of guest needs
Communication & Team Support
- Act as a key point of communication between the kitchen, bar, and front-of-house team
- Confirm order accuracy and modifications before food leaves the kitchen
- Support servers and bartenders by clearing plates, resetting tables, and maintaining service pace
- Assist with expo duties during high-volume service periods as needed
Guest Experience & Brand Alignment
- Contribute to a calm, polished, and welcoming dining environment
- Be aware of the menu and able to answer basic guest questions or direct them to the appropriate team member
Operational Excellence
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of service stations, expo areas, and dining spaces
- Assist with pre-shift setup and post-shift breakdown
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and handling standards
Qualifications
- Previous restaurant or hospitality experience preferred (food runner, server assistant, or similar role)
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while staying composed and detail-oriented
- Strong communication skills and a team-first mindset
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, carry trays, and move quickly between service areas
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays
Tip Pool Participation
- This position participates in a tip pool in accordance with DeckHouse policy.
- Tip distribution is based on hours worked and role eligibility, and may include cash tips collected during service.
- Tip pool details, including calculation and payout timing, will be reviewed during onboarding.
- Participation in the tip pool reflects the Food Runner’s integral role in supporting seamless service, guest experience, and overall team success.
