Job Title: Construction Manager — Fiber Network Deployment
Location: Fullerton, CA (Orange County area)
Duration: Direct Hire
Schedule: Primarily field-based while active construction is underway — on-site 3–4 days per week in accordance with build activity, with the remainder handled remotely. Some travel to nearby markets may be required if coverage expands to adjacent areas, reimbursed at the federal mileage rate.
About the Opportunity
We're building out a greenfield fiber network in the Fullerton/Orange County area using microtrenching methods, and we're looking for a hands-on Construction Manager to own field execution for this market. This is a ground-floor opportunity with a company still standing up its construction organization — you'll help shape process as much as execute it, working closely with a newly forming leadership team.
What You'll Do
- Own end-to-end fiber construction execution through third-party subcontractors and vendors, from work order sequencing through closeout, across the Fullerton/OC market.
- Oversee permitting, licensing, and regulatory approvals with local and state agencies to keep subcontractor deliverables on schedule and in spec.
- Manage construction schedules, budgets, materials procurement, and subcontractor performance across active job sites in the area.
- Track daily field progress, resolve on-site issues in real time, and provide clear status reporting to project leadership.
- Enforce safety, quality, and productivity standards consistently across crews and subcontractors — no formal people-management authority required, but strong influence and accountability skills are essential.
- Support cabinet and hut deployment oversight alongside core fiber construction.
- Stay on top of any competitor build activity in the local market and make recommendations for efficient use of capital.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years overseeing fiber optic construction projects through subcontractors and external vendors.
- Demonstrated field execution management: daily progress tracking, schedule adherence, quality control, and issue resolution across multiple active sites.
- Experience coordinating across project managers, engineers, permitting teams, inspectors, and utility owners.
- Hands-on subcontractor performance management — sequencing, productivity monitoring, escalation, corrective action.
- Valid driver's license.
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, still-forming startup construction environment.
- Able to be based in or reliably commute to the Fullerton, CA area, with regular on-site presence during active builds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent field experience).
- Experience with Sitetracker (strongly preferred) or Vitruvi.
Nice to Have
- Underground/OSP construction background from telecom, utility, or municipal fiber projects in Southern California.
- Familiarity with microtrenching methodologies.
- Familiarity with the greater Orange County / LA metro permitting landscape.
Why You'll Love This Opportunity
- Ground-floor role on a greenfield fiber buildout with real influence over how the construction organization gets built.
- Company-sponsored OSHA and safety training/certification.
- Medical/dental/vision (employee + spouse/family) and 401(k) with 3% match.
- Performance bonus potential on top of base.
- No mandatory office — field- and home-based, with office access in Fullerton when useful.
Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
