Under limited supervision, supervises and performs skilled work in the construction, repair and maintenance of wastewater and storm water collection systems, water distribution systems, treatment plants, lift stations, hydrants, sewer lines, mains, fire, and service lines, construction manholes, repairing sidewalks with meter boxes, flow testing service lines, and responding to user complaints; and performs other related duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Which are not in any hierarchical order)
1. Plans and organizes work and supervises crews in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water distribution, wastewater and storm water collection systems, treatment plants, and lift stations.
2. Maintains and repairs sewer mains, manholes and laterals, and air release valves. Caps water and sewer connections for demo’s. Plugs sewer laterals for non-payment. Removes water meters for demo, and conducts monthly surveys of problem manholes and sewer mains in service area.
3. Locate laterals for new construction, verifies active lateral and proper connections on new construction.
4. Arranges for and supervises the movement of tools, equipment, and crews to and from works sites.
5. Ensures equipment and tools are in proper working order at all times and schedules and/or makes repairs as needed, transports equipment needing repair out of town and manages inventory of supplies and parts.
6. Locates and makes detailed sketches of lateral and manhole locations and type of pipe and footage on each section of main in sewer system and maintains maps for accuracy.
7. Supervises or makes temporary and permanent pavement and sidewalk repairs in conjunction with construction and maintenance of water and waste water systems.
8. Completes employee performance reviews and other employee related paperwork, recommends training for employees, and attends job related training courses to improve and/or enhance job performance.
9. Keeps records of assignments, prepares progress reports and time/cost accounting reports.
10. Notifies residents and property owners of utility system shut downs.
11. Observes standard operating procedures and safety practices, ensures workers follow safety practices, and inspects all emergency and safety equipment for trucks and tools.
12. Performs operations and maintenance supervisor’s job and all other wastewater collection functions as required.
13. Responds to emergency calls for service on a call-out basis and works outside normal working hours as needed.
14. Performs other related duties as assigned.
