The City of Conover is seeking a motivated, customer focused, and detail-oriented planning professional to join our Planning Department. This position may be filled as a Planner I or Planner II depending on the selected candidate’s education, experience, technical knowledge, communication skills, and ability to perform the work. This position will serve as the first point of contact for Planning Department customers at City Hall. The selected candidate must be comfortable working directly with residents, property owners, contractors, developers, applicants, and staff in a professional, patient, and practical manner. Excellent customer service skills are essential. This is a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys helping the public, explaining processes clearly, solving problems, supporting responsible growth, and learning how local government planning directly affects a community. The role includes a mix of front-line customer service, permitting support, development review, research, reporting, and coordination with the Planning Director, applicants, boards, City staff, and the public.

Planner I: Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, community development, political science, or related field. Relevant experience in local government, development services, zoning, permitting, or planning will be considered, but is not required. Planner II: Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, community development, political science, or related field. with two years professional planning experience required; AICP certification is preferred but not required.
