Position Overview
We’re seeking a motivated, patient-centered Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our team. In this role, you’ll work under the supervision of our occupational therapists to design and deliver therapeutic interventions that enhance seniors’ daily function, safety, and overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with OTs: Assist in planning and implementing individualized treatment plans focused on mobility, balance, strength, coordination, and adaptive strategies.
Direct Patient Care: Lead one-on-one and small-group activities to promote independence in self-care, household tasks, and leisure pursuits.
Documentation & Reporting: Accurately record treatment progress, update patient records in our EMR system, and communicate changes to the supervising therapist.
Safety & Infection Control: Adhere to all infection-control protocols, maintain a safe treatment environment, and perform equipment checks.
Interdisciplinary Communication: Liaise with physical therapists, nursing staff, facility managers, and family members to ensure cohesive, patient-centered care.
Patient & Family Education: Teach seniors and their caregivers practical techniques and home modifications to support continued progress outside of therapy sessions.
Qualifications & Skills
Certification & License: Active COTA certification in Illinois; current CPR/First Aid.
Geriatric Experience: Minimum of 1 year treating older adults, with strong understanding of age-related changes in cognition, strength, and mobility.
Clinical Competence: Proficiency in therapeutic activities, adaptive equipment, and fall-risk reduction strategies.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills; ability to explain complex concepts in clear, empathetic language.
Independence & Collaboration: Comfortable working autonomously in assisted-living settings while maintaining close coordination with the supervising OT and interdisciplinary teams.
