$29.46- $37.60 per hour, Pay dependent on qualifications and in accordance with Oregon's Pay Equity Act.

Overview:
The Community Service Officer enforces animal control and welfare ordinances and related laws and regulations regarding stray, dangerous, nuisance and unwanted domestic animals. This position is responsible for investigating citizen complaints and issues citations for violations; captures, handles, transports, and detains animals.
This position is non-sworn (i.e. doesn’t attend the Police Academy) but is a great opportunity to learn about the Springfield Police Department and a career in law enforcement. The ideal Community Service Officer candidate will have a passion for serving others and having a positive impact in the community.

Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- 18 years of age
- A minimum of one year of experience or training in basic law enforcement, code enforcement, criminal justice, social services, or related
- Equivalency may be met through additional education, law enforcement training, reserve academy, or related.
- No felony convictions or misdemeanors directly related to position
- Ability to pass a background investigation
- Valid Oregon Driver’s License at time of appointment and maintain
- Pass Criminal Justice Services requirements (CJIS)
- Pass Law Enforcement System requirements (LEDS)
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Ability to meet physical, psychological, and medical requirements for the position
- Refrain from tobacco products while on duty
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferences may be given for knowledge and experience:
- Spanish language skills
- Previous law enforcement/ Community Service Officer experience
- National Animal Care and Control Association (NACA) Certification
- Previous veterinary experience
