Job Overview:
Express Employment Professionals is seeking a proactive, bilingual (English/Spanish) Safety Manager with hands-on construction experience to join our client team. The ideal candidate will possess a balance of practical field knowledge and strong communication skills, enabling them to resolve safety concerns efficiently without unnecessary escalation. This role requires someone who remains calm, respectful, and solution-oriented, even when managing challenging situations or difficult personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote and enforce a culture of safety on all company job sites while maintaining productivity and practical solutions.
- Communicate fluently and professionally in both English and Spanish, both verbally and in writing, with all employees, subcontractors, and external parties.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor compliance with safety protocols, provide coaching, and identify areas for improvement.
- Investigate and thoroughly document all accidents, property damage, and utility incidents, including comprehensive video documentation and evidence collection.
- Manage and process workers’ compensation claims, including documentation, insurance coordination, and adherence to company policies.
- Maintain accurate records of PPE inventory, safety paperwork, employee training, and certification renewals.
- Handle insurance matters and claims as needed, ensuring requirements and procedures are followed to protect the company.
- Distinguish between non-negotiable safety issues and those that can be resolved with field-based, common-sense solutions.
- Stay current with and, if necessary, obtain required safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, E&S, VDOT Intermediate Work Zone, Maryland/SHA roadway safety).
- Travel regularly between job sites; maintain a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Work outdoors in a variety of conditions; must be physically capable of walking/inspecting job sites for extended periods.
Qualifications:
- Fluent in English and Spanish (spoken and written).
- Demonstrated field/construction experience.
- Calm, respectful, and level-headed approach, especially under pressure or when dealing with difficult individuals.
- Strong practical judgment for prioritizing and solving on-site safety issues.
- Experience processing workers’ compensation claims and insurance procedures.
- Expertise in investigating and documenting accidents, including utility hits, with attention to detail.
- Proficient computer and email skills for handling reports and correspondence.
- Ability to manage PPE inventory and safety-related documentation.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
- Physically fit to perform site inspections in varying weather conditions.
- Current or ability to obtain relevant construction safety certifications.
