Lager Counseling Services is a growing mental health practice seeking a highly organized, personable, and customer-focused Billing Assistant to join our team.
The ideal candidate will be confident speaking with clients about out of network insurance benefits, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and other billing-related matters while providing exceptional customer service. We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, professional, reliable,organized and able to communicate complex billing information in a clear and compassionate manner.
Duties
- Serve as the primary client-facing billing specialist, providing knowledgeable and compassionate support for all insurance, billing,out-of-network coverage, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and financial responsibilities.
- Verify insurance benefits and communicate coverage details clearly through phone, email, and written correspondence.
- Manage claim submissions, denials, appeals, reimbursements, and follow-up with insurance carriers on outstanding claims.
- Utilize CPT and ICD-10 codes accurately while maintaining billing records and processing primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance claims.
- Prepare daily billing reports, account statements, and payment-related communications while ensuring documentation accuracy within Theranest EMR.
- Collaborate with administrative staff to resolve billing concerns and provide exceptional customer service with professionalism and confidentiality.
- Maintain current knowledge of insurance regulations, billing procedures, and industry best practices.
Skills
- Previous billing, medical billing, or healthcare administrative experience required
- Strong understanding of out of network insurance benefits, deductibles, copays, and claims processing
- Proficient in using billing computer systems, excel and email
- Familiarity with service codes and billing terminology
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy
- Professional, personable, and client-focused demeanor
- Ability to explain billing information clearly and confidently to clients
- Experience with mental health billing strongly preferred
- Knowledge of behavioral health insurance plans and reimbursement processes
- Experience working in a mental health or healthcare practice
