Description:
The Blacksmith plays a vital role in maintaining proper care and maintenance of horse's hooves. By assessing hoof condition, performing corrective and preventative shoeing, and responding promptly to any hoof-related issues.
Schedule
In this role, you will work on race nights from 5:00pm-midnight
Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Ensure the overall health and well-being of the hooves through regular inspection.

Respond promptly to urgent situations, such as replacing a lost shoe during warm-ups, scoring down, or pre-race preparations.

Accurately measure and select appropriate racing shoes tailored to each horse’s needs and racing conditions.

Apply and adjust horseshoes using proper farriery techniques to enhance performance and prevent injury.

Educate and advise trainers and stable staff on best practices for hoof care, maintenance schedules, and early signs of hoof-related issues.

Maintain detailed records of hoof care treatments, shoeing schedules, and any observed abnormalities.

Stay current with industry standards, materials, and techniques related to equine hoof care and racing performance.

Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
Education

High School Diploma or GED Preferred
Work Experience

6+ Months of Prior Relevant Experience Required
Additional Requirements

Must be able to obtain an Ohio State Racing Commission License. Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to effectively communicate in English, in both written and verbal forms

Basic knowledge or Proficiency of computer software to include Outlook, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as office equipment, i.e. telephone, copier, fax machine
