Job Goal

To provide coordination of a high-quality , district wide, fine arts program for the purpose of ensuring each student has access to varied opportunities w i th in the field of fine arts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinates the development, implementation, and maintenance of an organized, effective fin e arts program and ensures alignment with district vision, policies, goals, and strategies as well as state and national standards.

Serves as a fine arts liaison and mentor for educators across the district.

Observes schools and classrooms as requested and consults with administrators to assist in increasing student participation in fine arts programs , to confirm appropriate programs of study are followed , to ensure alignment with the district’s overall instructional program, and to facilitate enhanced program development for the purpose of support ing the district’s continuous improvement plan.

Establishes and maintains positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with outside agencies and service providers to meet students’ needs and provide for enhanced educational opportunities.

Sustains positive public relations with students, students’ families , and the local community to increase awareness and understanding and to promote increased participation in the fine arts program ; coordinates student recruitment efforts for the fine arts program .

Coordinates the compilation, creation, and revision of specialized curriculum resources, pacing guides, and other materials for distribution across the fine arts program within the district.

Ensures the evaluation and selection of current curriculum resources, textbooks, supplies, technology, tools, and materials, relevant to the fine arts program, are incorporated into district teaching practices.

Participates in various staff, board, committee, and other meetings as appropriate to interpret and review program assessment data ; to discuss feedback, policy changes , and other relevant information ; and to resolve existing issues and concerns.

Maintains research-based knowledge in educational developments and techniques within state and national fine arts programs ; reviews current developments, literature, and technical sources of information; and utilizes knowledge to ensure ongoing improvements are implemented for the purpose of increasing student achievement and enhancing student outcomes.

Designs and/or coordinates a wide variety of staff development services and activities for assigned personnel based on curriculum and student learning goals, including in-service programs, seminars, conferences, workshops, etc., to address professional learning needs within the fine arts program.

Develops, prepares, and submits a departmental budget and monitors / approves expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility to the district’s strategic goals and objectives.

Researches and presents opportunities for grants and external funding methods to support the fine arts program ; administers grants and tracks related budgets; collaborates with outside groups and organizations as appropriate; and p repares and submits grant information as required.

Prepares and/or coordinates the completion of accurate and timely reports and records as required by applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements and submits as required.

Provides leadership and supervision over assigned personnel to ensure employees have a clear understanding of their job responsibilities.

Selects personnel and conducts performance appraisals on assigned employees and makes recommendations for appropriate employment action to ensure a standard of accountability is met as defined by the department’s goals and objectives, as well as the policies established by the Huntsville City School System.

Provides and ensures employees’ participation in professional developmental training opportunities as needed to perform their job duties.

Responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving operating procedures to improve efficiency and effective use of school resources.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A Master’s Degree from an accredited college and/or university with a minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience required. Must possess a valid Alabama Professional Teaching Certificate in a Fine Arts discipline such as Visual Art, Music, Theatre, Dance, or related field.

Physical Requirements

Requires light work exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. Job involves sitting most of the time.

Terms of Employment

Twelve month year. Salary as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
