About Us:
Restoration Eye Care is a patient-centered ophthalmology practice serving Grand Rapids, Wyoming, and greater West Michigan. We pair the latest technology with a traditional, close doctor-patient relationship — minimal wait times, individualized treatment plans, and a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere. Our mission is to put the heart back into the medical experience for our corner of West Michigan, and our team is dedicated to excellence in both patient outcomes and clinical support. If you want to do meaningful work in a modern practice that still knows its patients by name, you'll fit right in here.
Position Summary:
We're looking for an experienced medical or dental front-desk professional to own our front office — reception, scheduling, insurance, and patient billing. This is the heart of our practice, and we want someone who takes real pride in running it well: keeping the schedule full and organized, making every patient feel welcome, and handling the money side accurately and confidently. This is a career home for someone who wants to master and own the front-office of a growing practice for the long term.
Responsibilities:
- Own the front desk: greet and check in patients, and set the tone for a calm, welcoming, professional experience
- Own the schedule: book, reschedule, and confirm appointments across our clinic and surgical calendar, and keep it full and efficient
- Handle a high volume of phone calls — answering patient questions, returning messages, and coordinating with referring optometry offices and other physician offices
- Verify insurance eligibility, determine patient deductibles, run benefits breakdowns, and provide clear out-of-pocket cost estimates before visits and procedures
- Collect payment up front at the time of service, and process copays and balances
- Review billing documentation — fee schedules, EOBs, and claims — to determine what services cost and what patients owe.
- Keep patient records and demographic information accurate and up to date
- Coordinate records, referrals, and imaging with outside offices
Qualifications:
- Prior experience at a medical or dental front desk (dental front-desk experience with insurance verification is a strong fit; ophthalmology or optometry is a plus)
- Hands-on experience verifying insurance benefits, reading a deductible, and generating patient cost estimates
- Experience collecting payment up front at the time of service and reviewing billing documentation (fee schedules, EOBs, claims) to determine service costs and patient balances owed
- 2+ years of experience with scheduling, payment collections, and a working knowledge of insurance plans
- Confident, professional phone presence and genuinely good with people
- Comfort with an electronic medical record system (we use Modernizing Medicine / EMA); prior ModMed experience a plus
- Someone who wants to own and take pride in the front-office and billing side long-term
- Excellent attention to detail, strong multitasking skills, and professionalism in patient care settings
- Able to keep patient information confidential (HIPAA); high school diploma
What We Offer:
- Competitive compensation based on experience
- Real ownership of the front office in a small, physician-led practice — your work is visible and it matters
- A supportive, team-oriented work environment
- The opportunity to contribute meaningfully to patient care
- Room to grow your expertise and responsibility on the front-office and billing side as the practice grows
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
