Under the supervision of the Adaptive Wellness Manager, assists in the development and delivery of Adaptive Wellness Programs provided at select locations throughout the greater Jacksonville area. Includes program development, evaluation, and outcomes tracking. The Specialist will establish and maintain positive, supportive relationships with program participants, family members, volunteers, students, media, colleagues and all community members, serving as an ambassador for the Program at all times.
Monday, Wednesday, Friday Brooks YMCA: 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM Tuesday/Thursday Dye Clay YMCA & Williams YMCA: 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Responsibilities:
- Ensure that necessary equipment and supplies are present at all weekly activities and special events.

Assist with transfer of participants to/from wheelchairs and fitness equipment.

Create a positive environment by encouraging participants, volunteers, and families during program activities.

Set-up and clean-up of space and other resources utilized during activity and special events.

Inform participants, volunteers and staff of all programmatic updates through written, email, or in-person communication.

Perform clerical and administrative duties such as documenting attendance, exercises, filing, copying, and email communications.

Report overall attendance trends and supply needs of the program to manager.

Maintain participant safety during activities.

Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Fitness/Wellness Specific

Create and prescribe individualized exercise programs based on the evaluation of a Brooks physical therapist that target the participant’s specific goals and needs.

Conduct on-site new participant orientations, ensuring completion of all required documentation and proper configuration of equipment settings.

Train and schedule interns, volunteers, and fitness staff on working with the target population.

Responsible for managing the task list for respective wellness site in ImageNow software, scheduling/enrolling new participants and following YMCA protocol for nonmember participants.

Lead group exercise classes adapted for participant needs and ability.
Qualifications:
- One or more years of experience in assigned responsibility

Special degree or professional certification in personal training or exercise or a commitment to complete certification within 30 days of hire.

Bachelor’s degree in a health profession preferred.

Experience and a strong desire to serve physically disabled persons in a post-rehab environment.

Current CPR certification or commitment to complete certification within 30 days of hire.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Proficiency in MS Outlook and/or other email program
Physical Requirements:
- Lifting disabled individuals during transfers with assistance as needed

Stretching, lifting, reaching ,jumping, standing, sitting based on scheduled activities

Able to perform heavy lifting to include people and equipment as needed
