Data Analyst — Business & Investment Analytics
A&P Investment Partners LLC
Greater Hartford, CT Hybrid / In-person
ABOUT US
A&P Investment Partners LLC is a privately held investment firm that acquires and operates small businesses and commercial real estate across Connecticut. Our portfolio spans multiple operating companies — gas stations, convenience stores, a liquor store, and a restaurant — each generating rich transactional data across point-of-sale, fuel, banking, and payroll systems, alongside a growing real estate portfolio. We are building a data-driven decision-making function from the ground up, and this role sits at the center of it.
POSITION SUMMARY
We are hiring a Data Analyst to design and own the analytics, reporting, and forecasting infrastructure for a multi-entity business and real estate portfolio. You will work with large, real-world datasets — POS transactions, fuel margins, banking and payroll records, cost data, and property and market data — and turn them into automated dashboards, predictive models, and quantitative analyses that drive operating and investment decisions. This is a hands-on, quantitative role reporting directly to ownership, with the autonomy to build the data stack and analytical methods from the ground up.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Engineering & Analytics (Core Focus)
- Consolidate and clean data from multiple source systems (POS, fuel, banking, payroll, accounting) into structured, reliable datasets for analysis.
- Design and maintain automated data pipelines that replace manual, spreadsheet-based reporting.
- Apply statistical analysis and data-mining techniques to surface trends, anomalies, and margin-improvement opportunities across the portfolio.
Business Intelligence & Reporting
- Build and maintain interactive dashboards and KPI reporting in Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
- Develop automated performance reporting on fuel margins, store sales, basket size, food and labor cost, and foot traffic.
- Deliver clear data visualizations and written analytical summaries to ownership.
Predictive Modeling & Forecasting
- Build revenue, expense, and cash-flow forecasting models for each operating company.
- Apply time-series and statistical methods to model seasonality, demand, and sales trends.
- Develop budget-vs-actual variance analytics and automated exception flagging.
Data-Driven Acquisition & Investment Analytics
- Build quantitative screening models to evaluate acquisition targets (businesses and real estate) using market, demographic, and financial data.
- Develop underwriting models and data-supported buy / no-buy analyses, including returns metrics (cap rate, cash-on-cash, IRR, payback) and sensitivity analysis.
- Compile and analyze location, traffic-count, demographic, and competitive datasets to support site and deal evaluation.
Financial Data Analytics & Automation
- Build automated pipelines and reconciliation logic that transform raw accounting and banking data into analysis-ready datasets and management reporting.
- Design data-quality checks and controls to ensure accuracy across entities.
- Support quantitative analysis of costs, margins, and cash flow to inform operating decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Master's degree (recently completed) in Data Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field.
- Proficiency in Python, R, or SQL, plus advanced Excel.
- Demonstrated experience building dashboards or reports in a BI tool (Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
- Strong statistical, quantitative, and data-wrangling skills with real-world data.
- Clear written communication for translating analysis into recommendations; self-directed and detail-oriented.
Preferred
- Coursework or project experience in forecasting, predictive modeling, or financial / business analytics.
- Familiarity working with financial or accounting datasets.
- Interest in applying analytics to small-business operations, real estate, and acquisitions.
WHAT YOU'LL GAIN
- Full ownership of the analytics, BI, and forecasting function for a real multi-business portfolio.
- Direct mentorship from a CPA owner on applying analytics to finance, operations, and underwriting.
- A portfolio of production dashboards, forecasting models, and quantitative deal analyses.
- A path to expanding responsibility as the firm and data function grow.
