Langer Construction is hiring for a Construction Accountant for our headquarters in St. Paul. The Construction Accountant partners with project teams to provide accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting, analysis, and guidance throughout the lifecycle of assigned construction projects. This role is responsible for overseeing all project accounting activities—from project setup and preconstruction through project closeout—while ensuring financial transactions are accurate, compliant, and aligned with company policies, contractual requirements, and accounting standards.
Serving as a trusted advisor to Project Managers and operational leaders, the Construction Accountant exercises independent judgment in reviewing and interpreting financial information, resolving complex accounting issues, identifying financial risks, and recommending solutions that support sound business decisions.
This position will be part of the Construction Accounting Team and will report directly to the Vice President and President.
Job Responsibilities
- Reconcile and validate reporting across multiple systems.
- Assist in ad-hoc reporting and projects as needed.
- Monthly preparation of construction financial reports on a Work in Place and Financial Reporting basis.
- Manage overall accounts receivable exposure on construction jobs.
- Perform project creation, project close, and compliance review tasks.
- Preparation of job cost journal entries.
- General administrative duties such as filing, correspondence, data entry, etc.
- Assistance with year-end audit related tasks.
- Implementing process improvements across our overall construction accounting team and working directly with operational teams.
- Manage accounting and contract closeout process with owner on projects.
- Assist in drafting subcontracts and change orders for PM and owner review and approval; manage all related paperwork.
- Assist in ad-hoc reporting and projects as needed.
- Monthly preparation of construction financial reports on a Work in Place and Financial Reporting basis.
Job Requirements & Skills
- 2-year Associates or 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
- 3+ years of accounting or finance experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and account reconciliation.
- Demonstrated ability to organize multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Communicates financial information clearly and professionally to project teams, leadership, and business partners.
- Applies sound judgment to evaluate financial issues, identify risks, and recommend practical solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and professional judgment.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel.
- Construction knowledge and experience with Sage Accounting Software preferred.
Compensation
The salary range is $65,000 - 80,000.00 per year. The annual base salary may vary within the anticipated range based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities.
