Overview
We're a growing HVAC startup looking for a sharp, hungry estimator who wants more than just a paycheck. This is a ground-level role with a seat at the table — you won't be just another number. You'll help shape how we estimate, how we win, and how we grow.
We're seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented HVAC Estimator to price heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for commercial construction projects. Your expertise will keep our bids competitive and profitable while holding the highest standards of quality and efficiency — contributing to impactful projects from inception through completion.
What You'll Do
- Review and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine HVAC material and labor requirements.
- Develop precise cost estimates using Planswift, Excel, and other construction management tools.
- Prepare detailed proposals — pricing materials, equipment, labor, and subcontractor services against project scope and client specifications.
- Manage project budgets with accurate estimating and effective cost-control measures throughout the bidding process.
- Use Bluebeam, Adobe, or similar tools for markup reviews, plan revisions, and document management to streamline estimating workflows.
- Read blueprints thoroughly to flag challenges or discrepancies that could affect project costs or timelines.
- Collaborate with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams — negotiating to secure competitive pricing and favorable contract terms.
- Coordinate estimating efforts across multiple simultaneous projects with project managers and construction teams.
- Support contract review to ensure estimates align with contractual obligations and specifications.
- Drive continuous improvement by analyzing past project costs and finding efficiency gains.
What We're Looking For
- 5–7 years of HVAC estimating experience.
- Located in the Dallas/Fort Worth metro — this is an in-office position.
- Established relationships with DFW General Contractors. You know the players, and they know you. This is a requirement.
- A proven track record of winning bids — not just submitting them.
- The ability to demonstrate post-project profitability tied directly to your estimating work — data, closeout reports, win/loss analysis. Show us the evidence.
- Strong proficiency in estimating software (Planswift, Excel) and construction management platforms.
- Excellent blueprint reading and interpretation of technical drawings.
- Demonstrated expertise in cost management, material cost estimating, and HVAC pricing strategies.
- Familiarity with digital plan review and markup.
- Solid grasp of contracts, negotiation techniques, and client communication.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite — especially Excel — for data analysis and reporting.
- Construction site experience highly desirable, to ground estimates in on-the-ground realities.
What Sets You Apart
We don't just want someone who can crunch numbers. We want someone who can prove their bids drive profit. If you have data showing your estimating directly contributed to project profitability — bring it. That's the conversation we want to have.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives without hand-holding, thinks like an owner, and is ready to trade some short-term salary security for significant long-term upside.
