Overview
We are seeking an experienced Building Engineer to support the daily operations of our commercial office properties. This is a hands-on, tenant-facing role for a seasoned professional with strong technical expertise and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
The Building Engineer will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems while working closely with property management, vendors, and building tenants.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot commercial HVAC systems (RTUs, VAVs, boilers, chillers, baseboard heat, controls, etc.)
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on: Electrical systems (panels, lighting, ballasts, outlets) Plumbing systems (fixtures, pumps, domestic water, drains) Mechanical equipment and building infrastructure
- Respond to work orders and service requests in a timely and professional manner
- Monitor building systems and respond to alarms and after-hours issues as required
- Coordinate and oversee outside vendors and contractors
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
- Support building inspections, testing, and compliance (fire/life safety, elevators, HVAC inspections)
- Assist with minor construction projects
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Building Engineer or Maintenance Engineer in commercial properties
- Strong working knowledge of:
- HVAC systems (diagnostics and repairs)
- Electrical systems
- Plumbing systems
- Mechanical systems
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and control diagrams
- EPA Certification (Type II or Universal) preferred
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Professional and customer-service-focused when working with tenants
- Valid driver’s license
