Duties
- Perform dental prophylaxis, including cleaning, scaling, and polishing teeth to prevent decay and gum disease
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring proper technique and patient safety
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current oral health status
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and dietary recommendations
- Assist with chairside procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency and patient comfort
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix
- Follow infection prevention protocols by practicing aseptic techniques and managing sterilization of dental equipment
- Communicate clearly with patients about treatment plans, procedures, and post-care instructions while maintaining HIPAA compliance and confidentiality
Requirements
- Valid Dental Hygienist license in accordance with state regulations
- Proven experience working in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry environments
- Proficiency with dental software systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for documentation and scheduling
- Knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, and anatomy relevant to oral health care
- Familiarity with dental equipment operation, X-ray safety standards, and infection control practices
- Strong patient care skills with the ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with diverse patient populations including pediatrics
- Ability to perform medical assessments such as vital signs monitoring and basic medical imaging procedures
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and data security
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) management, documentation review, and medical coding is preferred
