Description:
To help coordinate PETA's work with educators and parents to replace the animals used for dissection and other science education projects
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Correspond with teachers and parents about dissection and help animals by addressing their use in classrooms nationwide
- Assist with outreach to teachers looking for dissection funding on Donors Choose
- Build and maintain relationships with school district leaders and decision makers to secure pilot program opportunities
- Travel to and represent TeachKind and perform outreach at science educator conferences
- Respond to other science-related correspondence, such as chick-hatching projects and bottle biology
- Research schools, districts, and more to find opportunities to replace animals being used for dissection
- Monitor sources for opportunities to offer humane science options in place of using animals
- Proactively identify and contact schools about ending dissection
- Write and coordinate content on the TeachKind section of PETA.org related to dissection
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor
Requirements:
- Background in science education, one year of classroom teaching experience is helpful
- Extensive knowledge of issues related to the use of animals in science education
- Proven familiarity with scientific terminology and virtual dissection software
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including excellent grammar and sentence structure, and knowledge of animal liberation issues
- Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office software
- Demonstrated exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Great phone skills—as you'll be speaking with teachers and parents to discuss replacing animals being used for dissection
- Proven ability to work well under pressure and within tight deadlines
- Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness and ability to travel
- Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record
- Commitment to the objectives of the organization
The hourly pay range for this position is $18.82 - $23.12. The ultimate hourly pay within this range that will be offered to a qualified candidate will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and the cost of living in the area in which the candidate will live and work.
