POSITION GOAL: To coordinate and direct all marketing, public relations and community engagement efforts guided by the district’s strategic plan and in support of student achievement, including serving as the primary media contact for the District.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and lead effective District-level communications, marketing, public relations, media relations and community engagement activities.
- Develop, execute, monitor and evaluate a comprehensive District-wide communication-marketing strategy that supports the implementation of the District’s Strategic Plan and promotes the District’s vision by reaching all targeted audiences.
- Ensure branding strategy and attributes are integrated throughout all aspects of the District’s communications.
- Organize and supervise various public engagement opportunities or initiatives relative to student achievement and other District issues, including the State of the Schools address, Parent University, and Parents as Leaders.
- Support schools, Board of Education, Superintendent, and other Administrators in marketing and communications initiatives to ensure that appropriate messages concerning student achievement and other initiatives remain before the public.
- Supervise, assist or directly develop and distribute appropriate publications, including the District calendar/handbook, high school registration book, State of the Schools/District Budget Update and other various marketing and advertising literature.
- Supervise, monitor and update the District website, while providing ongoing support to schools in maintaining their websites.
- Engage parents and the public as a whole by following NCLB and National parent involvement standards.
- Monitor District communication via social media channels.
- Co-Supervise the Student registration process in conjunction with the Accountability and Research Department.
- Attend Board of Education meetings and prepare such reports as requested by the Superintendent of Schools.
- Assist representatives of the various news media at meetings of the Board of Education in getting background information on agenda items and help interpret for them actions of the Board of Education.
- Direct the daily flow of information to the news media, cultivate good working relationships with them and assist them with background and suggestions for features or programs they may be preparing.
- Supervise, assist or directly develop newspaper and radio advertisements that are presented to the general public, staff and students.
- Direct the development and negotiations regarding radio and television programs involving District #150.
- Participate in the activities of various groups and organizations within the community to foster better school public relations.
- Directly supervise or support annual events, awards, promotions and contests as requested by the Superintendent of Schools, including the Don Phares Memorial Excellence in Education Award, Those Who Excel, Employee of the Month Award, United Way Campaign, All-Staff Back to School event and high school graduation ceremonies.
- Supervise the Key Communicators Network to enhance the District’s weekly Remarkable Times e-newsletter, social media channels and other District communications.
- Maintain files on Hold Harmless Agreements and insurance Certificates of Liability from radio and television stations broadcasting District 150 athletic events.
- Act as the Superintendent’s representative on Board committees and other such committees as the Superintendent may direct, including but not limited to the Parent Advisory Committee and the Peoria Public Schools District 150 Foundation.
- Maintain a secure and confidential work environment to protect the district and its employees.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending education workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional services.
- Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS:
- Bachelors degree in communications, public relations, journalism, graphic design, advertising, marketing or related field.
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Display strong skill in writing/editing and visual thinking.
- Offer strong experience in online communication and social media
- Have strong understanding of the Internet and web design.
- Moderate knowledge and experience with HTML and CSS.
- Exhibit some understanding of Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark or other popular graphic design applications.
- Maintain confidentiality both within and outside the organization.
- Be a self-starter, self-sufficient, dedicated and highly motivated.
- Demonstrate the ability to multi-task.
- Adjust quickly to a fast-paced environment.
- Ability and flexibility to work extended hours when necessary.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum ten years of job-related experience.
- Extensive experience in building social media communication for a business or organization.
- Strong writing portfolio from previous experience.

- 3 Website/Social Media samples
- Writing test

Pay: $57,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
