Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our veterinary team. The ideal candidate will support our veterinarian in providing exceptional animal care and ensure smooth clinic operations. You will be part of a team of 8 full time staff and 2 part time staff. This role offers an opportunity to work with a diverse range of animals, including dogs and cats, in a fast-paced clinical environment. Candidates with veterinary clinic experience are highly encouraged to apply. A strong understanding of veterinary terminology, animal handling, and medical procedures is essential for success in this role. Individuals with strong interpersonal communication skills, work ethic and work history will be considered even if you have no experience. In this instance you would be trained through our training program.
Duties
- Assist with animal restraint and handling during examinations and procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff.
- Administer medications and injections following veterinary instructions, maintaining aseptic techniques.
- Support laboratory procedures including sample collection and processing.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of treatment areas, kennels, and equipment using proper aseptic techniques.
- Assist with front desk duties including scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, managing patient records, and communicating with pet owners. (minimal)
- Support veterinarian with critical care procedures and assist in emergency situations as needed.
- Handle animal catheterization, basic laboratory tests, and other technical tasks under supervision.
- Maintain detailed records of treatments, medications administered, and patient progress.
- Support the team in providing compassionate care to animals requiring special attention or critical care.
- Go over estimates and approved treatment plans with the client.
Experience
- Prior kennel experience or animal husbandry background is preferred.
- Experience working in a veterinary clinic or hospital setting is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and pet care practices is essential.
- Hands-on experience with dog handling, animal restraint techniques, and medication administration is beneficial.
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures, aseptic techniques, and veterinary equipment enhances candidacy.
