Marketing Intern — PPM Solar (Gainesville, FL)
PPM Solar has spent the last 17+ years designing, installing, and maintaining solar and battery systems for homes, businesses, farms, and municipalities throughout Florida. We've worked with 1,300+ customers and have been named to the Gator 100 four times, recognizing us as one of UF's fastest-growing alumni-founded companies. We're driven by a simple belief: clean energy is part of the solution for this planet, and we want people on our team who feel that same urgency.
About the Role
Forget the desk job. Forget scheduling posts from a laptop. This role puts you out in the Gainesville community at events, on job sites, and in front of real people — building PPM Solar's presence the way it's always grown best: through genuine relationships and honest storytelling.
As our Marketing Intern, you'll become the face of PPM Solar. You'll show up at community events, swing by active installations to see the work firsthand, talk with our crews and customers, and turn those moments into content that actually reflects what we do. No stock photos, no filler — just real projects and real people.
What You'll Do
- Show up for PPM Solar at farmers markets, sustainability fairs, chamber events, home shows, and other local gatherings
- Visit job sites to shoot photos and video, and talk with installation crews about the work in progress
- Produce short-form video and photo content spotlighting real customers, real team members, and real installations
- Hand out brochures, flyers, and branded materials around Gainesville
- Build your own solar pitch — get comfortable with the financials, the technology, and the "why," so you can talk to anyone with confidence
- Help run grassroots marketing efforts: creative, low-budget tactics that get people talking
- Keep an ear out in the field — competitor moves, common customer questions, ideas worth bringing back to the team
- Work closely with our Marketing Director to shape content and campaigns
What We're Looking For
- Genuine interest in sustainability and clean energy — this should matter to you beyond the resume line
- Outgoing, comfortable striking up conversations with strangers and representing a brand publicly
- Self-starter — you don't need hand-holding once you know the goal
- Curious about the solar industry (no prior expertise required — we'll teach you)
- Reasonably handy with a smartphone camera; video editing skills are a bonus
- Dependable — able to show up on schedule for events and site visits
- Able to commit 15–20 hours per week; we'll build your schedule around your classes
Nice to Have
- Currently studying marketing, sustainability, environmental science, communications, or similar at UF, Santa Fe College, or another local school
- Interest in renewable energy or environmental policy
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel around Gainesville and North Central Florida
- Some experience creating short-form content
What You'll Get
- Real, hands-on marketing experience — not a coffee-run internship
- Direct mentorship from our founder on the business and financial side of the solar industry
- A genuine portfolio: content you made, events you worked, campaigns you helped shape
- Exposure to everything from residential installs to megawatt-scale commercial and international projects
- A flexible schedule that works around your coursework
- A close-knit team that's proud of what they build
Why It Matters
Solar is at a turning point: policy is shifting, technology is moving fast, and electricity demand (AI included) is only climbing. If you're ready to stop talking about the clean energy transition and start being part of it, we'd like to meet you.
